Your Guide To Sacramento Fun During March Madness Weekend

The NCAA Tournament is just days away from tipping off at Golden 1 Center. Coinciding with March Madness’ takeover of Sacramento, there will be plenty of events and activities to enjoy throughout the weekend. Listed below are a few you should consider putting on your itinerary!


Old Sacramento St. Patty’s Day Parade

When: Saturday March 18, 12 pm – 3 pm 

Where: Neasham and Front Street

Hundreds of colorful marchers dressed in green, along with Irish and Highland dancers, pipe and drum bands, historic re-enactors and a variety of cultural organizations all join together to be a part of the 21st Annual St. Patrick’s Day parade.

Over 50 units with nearly 1,000 marchers will be featured in the parade. Irish dancers in elaborate Celtic costumes, bagpipers, bands, military regiments, police and fire representatives, costumed marchers and a variety of cultural organizations bring the luck of the Irish to the event.

deVere’s Block Party

When: Friday, March 17, 9 am

Where: 1521 L Street, Sacramento

Want the ultimate authentic-Irish experience? There’s no better place to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day than at de Vere’s, the only Irish-owned, Irish-run operated, and authentically Irish pub in Sacramento. Doors will open at 9 am and the famous Irish coffees will be piping hot and ready to serve. It’s a great way to kick off the day! 


Malt & Mash Rockin’ St. Patricks Day St. Rose Of Lima Takeover

When: Friday March 17, 11 am – 10 pm 

Where: 711 K Street 

Right across from Golden 1 Center lies this Irish gem. Festivities include: Bagpipes starting at noon, live music from House Party, Nickel Slots & The Pikeys, a beer garden, six outdoor satellite bars and a Tullamore Dew Snug “tasting cabin”. 

The Boxing Donkey

When: Friday March 17, 6 am – ‘”til late” 

Where: 300 Lincoln Street, Roseville

Have fun for a good cause! This Irish pub in Roseville will open at 6 a.m. on St. Patrick’s Day with a fundraiser for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation for child cancer research and a live broadcast by KNCI radio hosts Pat and Tom. You can enjoy traditional Irish food, a beer garden with green brew and Guinness among other libations, live music and more holiday happenings throughout the day. (A cameo by the pub’s four-legged namesake is promised as well!) 

Pine Cove St. Patty’s Day Bash

When: Friday March 17, 1 pm – 2 am 

Where: 502 29th Street 

The luck of the Irish is set loose on midtown starting at 1 p.m., promising green swag for customers, green beer and Irish car bombs (among other drink specials), and corned beef and cabbage for lunch and dinner. Make sure to come at 4 p.m. for the traditional Celtic tunes by the local four-piece Mighty Odd Gents, and stay for the karaoke getting underway at 8 p.m.
