About UCLA Bruins Women’s Basketball
Head coach Cori Close begins her 15th year at the helm in Westwood, leading the Bruins after a historic 2024-25 campaign. Close swept the national coach of the year awards as UCLA boasted a 34-3 record, capturing the Big Ten tournament title in its first year in the new conference. The program procured its first-ever No. 1 ranking by the Associated Press and sat atop the poll for 12-consecutive weeks, setting a Big Ten record, before reaching its first NCAA Final Four. The Bruins return the program’s first-ever AP First Team All-American – senior Lauren Betts – who led UCLA in points (20.2), rebounds (9.5) and blocks (2.9) per game and All-Big Ten First Team member Kiki Rice. The Bruin point guard posted career-best numbers across her shooting chart (.485/.365/.871) and assist columns (5.0 APG); the two stalwarts will be joined by the younger Betts, Sienna – the No. 2 prospect in the class of 2025 – and graduate transfers Gianna Kneepkens (Utah) and Charlisse Leger-Walker (Washington State). The new Bruins look to provide offensive firepower to compliment the unanimous Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and round out a dangerous UCLA squad in 2025-26.
About Oklahoma Sooners Women’s Basketball
Led by fifth-year head coach Jennie Baranczyk, Oklahoma enters the season ranked No. 6 in ESPN’s summer poll after advancing to the program’s first Sweet 16 since 2013 in last year’s NCAA Tournament. The Sooners return All-American center Raegan Beers, All-SEC performer Payton Verhulst and five-star standout Sahara Williams from a team that ranked fifth nationally in scoring and led the country with 21.7 assists per game. With that core joined by one of the nation’s top recruiting classes, headlined by No. 1 overall prospect Aaliyah Chavez, Oklahoma is poised to be one of the most dynamic and entertaining teams in the country.
