Ten years ago today, Sacramento officially cut the ribbon on Golden 1 Center, opening the doors to a new era for downtown and creating a gathering place that would become woven into the fabric of the region. To commemorate the anniversary, Golden 1 Center has released a 10-Year Impact Report, looking back at the people, partnerships, milestones and moments that have defined the arena’s first decade and its impact on Sacramento.
The report highlights Golden 1 Center’s key milestones and transformative impact on the region over the past decade, which include:
- Welcoming more than 14 million visitors to the arena, while the region has experienced job growth, business creation and capital investment generating $19.6 billion in economic impact (Source: Greater Sacramento Economic Council).
- Investing $16.3 million back into the community through charitable contributions.
- Impacting more than 230,000 young people through community programs.
- Becoming the world’s first LEED Platinum-certified indoor sports venue and first professional sports facility powered entirely by solar energy.
- Named the #1 NBA arena by ESPN (2024).
- Home to the NBA Team of the Year (2023-2024).
- Ranked as the second busiest arena in the U.S. and sixth busiest in the world by Billboard (2026).
- Partnering with regional farmers and producers to ensure that 90 percent of the ingredients used at the arena is sourced within 150 miles – supporting California farmers and the local agricultural economy.
“Ten years ago, we set out to create more than a world-class arena – we wanted to build a place that reflected the spirit of Sacramento and showed what was possible when a community comes together around a shared vision,” said Sacramento Kings Owner and Chairman Vivek Ranadivé. “Over the past decade, Golden 1 Center has become a gathering place for millions of people, a catalyst for downtown’s transformation and a symbol of Sacramento’s innovation, creativity and ambition. I am incredibly proud of what we have built together and even more excited to see what the next decade will bring.”
“Ten years ago, Sacramento came together with an unwavering belief in itself. We rallied to keep our beloved Kings and did something few communities have the courage to do, we built a world-class arena in the heart of our downtown,” said Greater Sacramento Economic Council President and CEO Barry Broome. “Golden 1 Center became much more than a home for the Kings; it became a symbol of what Sacramento can accomplish when we put our minds to something big. Ten years later, it remains a testament to our community’s resilience and a reminder that when Sacramento believes in itself, works together and pursues an ambitious vision, there is no limit to what we can achieve.”
“Golden 1 Center has fundamentally reshaped downtown Sacramento,” said Downtown Sacramento Partnership Executive Director Michael Ault. “Over the past decade, the arena has brought new energy to the heart of Sacramento, served as a catalyst for small businesses, and helped our downtown economy evolve beyond the traditional office environment. Its impact extends well beyond the central city – it has transformed how people experience Sacramento and become a defining part of our city’s identity.”
In addition, the Downtown Sacramento Partnership released its own Economic Impact Report highlighting Golden 1 Center’s impact on downtown Sacramento over the past decade. View the report HERE.
Since opening, Golden 1 Center has welcomed many of the world’s biggest artists, sporting events and entertainment experiences, helping establish Sacramento as a destination for major events. In continuing this tradition, Golden 1 Center will host an exciting lineup of live entertainment in October to mark the anniversary, including Thomas Rhett, Disney Worlds Collide Concert Tour, Sombr, Rod Wave, Mana, Matt Rife, WWE Smack Down, Los Inquietos Del Norte – Gerardo Ortiz – Luis Angel El Flaco, Doja Cat, and Disney on Ice presents Find Your Hero. More artists, shows and special events to be announced throughout the anniversary year.
From the beginning, Golden 1 Center was built to create opportunities for the community and set new standards for sports and entertainment venues. At the same time, Golden 1 Center has remained rooted in the community it was built to serve – welcoming graduates across its stage, creating opportunities for local artists and entrepreneurs, investing in youth and community organizations, and reflecting Sacramento through its food, art, culture and programming.
