Twenty One Pilots returned to Golden 1 Center for their sold out show after last playing Sacramento in 2017. Duo Joshua Dun and Tyler Joseph brought the energy from start to finish, proving it to be a show worth the wait.
As the curtain dropped to reveal the stage, the bandmates could be seen standing on a run-down car. Holding a flaming torch, Dun walked to the front of the stage before settling behind his drum set. Moments after, the car burst into flames and the night officially began.
The band’s set list encompassed tracks from their newest album, Trench, as well as older releases. After opening with “Jumpsuit”, they performed hit songs “Stressed Out,” “Heathens,” and “Ride” — among other fan favorites.
Mid-show, Tyler parted the pit before walking through the crowd while singing “Nico and the Niners.” Later on, to the crowd’s delight, they brought out opening act, MisterWives, to perform “Cut My Lip.”
As the night was coming to an end, fans anticipated the notorious Twenty One Pilots tradition of ending with the song “Trees”. Before performing the final song, Tyler said, “Let’s show them why we finish with this song.”
The use of lasers, confetti, and pyro throughout the night only added to the pulsing energy. The music encouraged everyone to get up on their feet and dance the entire night. The show that Tyler and Josh put on showed why their fans are so hardcore. (As proven in the fact that many concert-goers had been camping out for 4 days!) The love the “Banditos” have for their favorite performers radiated throughout the arena, and that love was reciprocated.
During the finale, Dun and Joseph joined the crowd while playing drums, as confetti rained down on the sea of yellow duct tape. Even though the show was coming to an end, the energy was as high as it had been the second they stepped on stage. After their final bows, Joseph said, “We are Twenty One Pilots, and so are you.”
