Today, Golden 1 Center, the world’s most sustainable and technologically advanced arena, announced that it will be offering PATH aluminum water bottles at the start of the 2021-22 season. This environmentally friendly practice will include all Local Eats stands and premium club spaces in the arena.
“As we celebrate the five-year anniversary of Golden 1 Center and as a natural extension of the arena’s commitment to sustainability, we are proud to eliminate plastic bottles and replace them with aluminum,” said Sacramento Kings Chief Operating Officer Matina Kolokotronis. “PATH is a leader in providing recyclable and eco-friendly water bottles and together with Raley’s we will give fans and guests an opportunity to serve as responsible stewards of the environment.”
“The Kings are at the forefront in terms of sustainability, and we are excited to partner with them in taking a stand to make the world a better place by eliminating single-use plastic,” said PATH Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer Shadi Bakour. “As we know, the sports industry is a pillar of American culture and entertainment. Together, we will leave a cleaner planet for generations to come.”
The PATH aluminum water bottle, presented by Raley’s, is a lightweight souvenir bottle and will contain still purified water with electrolytes added for taste.
Golden 1 Center was the first to be awarded LEED platinum designation and has been named the Environmental Innovator of the Year by Green Sports Alliance, Sustainable Business of the Year for Energy Conservation by BERC and “Sports Facility of the Year” by Sports Business Journal. The arena runs the most innovative food program in sports sourcing 90% of food within 150 miles of the arena, has implemented a Solar Days initiative to reduce power usage on “dark days,” and the Second That program aimed at eliminating food waste by donating unused/unprepared food to families in need. In addition, the arena is 100% powered by solar, 85% from solar farm and 15% from array on the roof. Recently, Golden 1 Center announced the opening of a Tesla Supercharger Station in Downtown Common’s (DOCO) Central Garage which utilizes solar energy produced at the arena.
