With the release of the Concrete and Gold album only three weeks away, the Foo Fighters just released a new music video for their song, “The Sky Is A Neighborhood”.
According to Rolling Stone, the video is directed by the band’s lead singer himself, Dave Grohl and even features his two kids.
“Frontman Dave Grohl directed the beautifully stylized clip, which finds two young girls – Grohl’s 11-year-old daughter Violet and 8-year-old daughter Harper – in a cozy cabin reading the song’s lyrics in an old book while the group begins to play the stomping rocker on the roof.”
The video has an eerie feel throughout the song. As Rolling Stone describes it:
“Foo Fighters begin puncturing holes in the roof and after the two girls fight over the discarded book, a strange light source lifts them off the ground.” They say, “The clip ends in a gorgeous flurry of light as Foo Fighters tear through the song’s final rousing chorus.”
According to an additional Rolling Stone’s article, Grohl was inspired by an unexpected musical source, Neil DeGrasse Tyson, in directing this video. After watching a YouTube video that describes astounding facts about the universe, Grohl was hooked.
“It basically talks about the atoms that comprise life on Earth and make up the human body are traceable to the beginnings of our universe,” he says. “Stars that go unstable and collapse and explode and just scatter their guts, their fundamental ingredients of life are all over the universe and forming solar systems and stars orbiting planets have the ingredients for life itself. And when you look up at the night sky, you realize that you’re not only part of the universe, but the universe is part of us. It really moves me.”
