Sacramento, Calif. – To create a seamless and frictionless guest experience at Golden 1 Center, the Sacramento Kings collaborated with Cartogram, a startup founded by prior Microsoft Research engineer Will Clausen, which has built industry-leading indoor location technology. The upcoming version of the Sacramento Kings app will use Cartogram’s technology to help visitors navigate and interact with the world’s most connected and technologically advanced arena, Golden 1 Center.
Cartogram’s platform enables the creation, management, and distribution of high-quality indoor maps that will provide visitors at Golden 1 Center with turn-by-turn directions to the fastest route from their parking spot, through the public plaza, and directly to the precise location of their seat. By leveraging Cartogram’s unique blend of wireless and sensor-driven indoor positioning algorithms, visitors at Golden 1 Center will be able to find their way to any of the arena’s sustainably sourced food vendors with turn-by-turn directions inside and outside of the venue. Once inside, visitors can search and filter the custom arena maps to learn about the facility on-demand with indoor maps that visually update in real-time as the venue changes.

Golden 1 Center’s user-centered approach is facilitated by accessing real-time data from the facility’s dedicated 200 gigabit connectivity capacity channeled through over 700 miles of single mode fiber cabling. All that connectivity feeds into the arena’s 6,000 square foot data command center that will use machine learning to respond to visitors’ needs in real time. As fans connect to one of the arena’s 1,000 next generation Wi-Fi access points – they will have access to the fastest internet connection of any sports and entertainment venue.
Taking venue technology a step further, Cartogram will enable the Kings to provide fans at Golden 1 Center with real-time information about the length of restroom and concession lines. Traditionally, line wait time monitoring required cameras or beacons, but Cartogram makes it possible with a unique, turn-key network integration at the arena. Since Cartogram can track the indoor location of visitors without beacons or an app, the accuracy of the line wait times is increased substantially compared to BLE-based systems.
