Golden 1 Center, Kings to Host CIF State Basketball Championships For 2017-18

NBA’s Newest Facility to Host High School State Basketball Championships

SACRAMENTO, CALIF. — Today, the CIF Executive Committee has announced that Golden 1 Center, the Sacramento Kings new downtown arena opening in October, will host the CIF State Basketball Championships through 2018. The Kings organization is no stranger to the CIF State Championships having hosted the tournament for 19 of the past 35 years. Additionally, Golden 1 Center will be one of a few NBA facilities to host high school basketball championships in the entire country.

“There are no words that can adequately express our appreciation of the Kings organization and their commitment to education-based athletics,” said CIF Executive Director Roger L. Blake. “We are thrilled that our student-athletes, coaches, parents and fans will have the opportunity to experience this new, state-of-the-art, world-class arena. Many former CIF athletes, who have advanced to the NBA and WNBA, still recall the excitement they felt the first time they stepped onto the floor at ARCO/Sleep Train Arena for the CIF State Championships.”

When Golden 1 Center opens in the fall it will revolutionize the fan experience. From the beginning of the design process, the arena was inspired by the best of California to utilize the environment and climate in innovative ways, without sacrificing fan comfort.

As the state’s newest sports and entertainment venue, student-athletes and their families, coaches, and basketball fans will have access to world-class technology and connectivity; enjoy fresh and locally-sourced arena cuisine, all at the heart of Sacramento’s new entertainment district.

“It is an honor to continue to host student-athletes, coaches and educators from around the state as they compete at the highest level,” said Kings President Chris Granger. “We’re proud Sacramento and Golden 1 Center will be home to treasured memories and special experiences.”

Annually, student-athletes from across the state compete in six divisions (both male and female) of the CIF State Basketball Championships. The 2017 CIF State Basketball Championships will take place Friday-Saturday, March 24-25 and the 2018 CIF State Basketball Championships will take place Friday-Saturday, March 23-24.
