It was an emotional night in Nashville, TN as country music’s most beloved artists came together to celebrate their work in a truly treasured genre. Golden 1 Center will be hosting several big names in country in the upcoming months – all of which had major moments at last night’s show.
Eric Church – Coming 3/30
Single of the year, “Record Year”
Album of the year, “Mr. Misunderstood” (winner)
Song of the year, “Record Year” (written by Eric Church and Jeff Hyde)
Music video of the year, “Record Year”
The North Carolina native was nominated in four different categories for Thursday’s award show; Single of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Music Video of the Year.
While he only walked away with one win (Album of the Year), Eric stole the night with his performance of “Kill a Word.” The song not only underscored his vocal talent, but also his songwriting skill. Prominent words from the song flashed behind the all-black, sunglasses-clad Church as he sang, including “begin again,” “redemption,” “empathy,” and “happiness.” His duo with Rhiannon Giddens was a classically good performance.
Tim McGraw & Faith Hill – Coming 7/28
Male vocalist of the year
Single of the year, “Humble and Kind”
Song of the year, “Humble and Kind” (written by Lori McKenna) (winner)
Music video of the year, “Humble and Kind”
Although Tim was the only member of the couple nominated, the two took to the red carpet celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary.
Tim McGraw and Faith Hill were the “Barbie and Ken” of the CMA’s – literally, they were portrayed as Barbie and Ken dolls in a skit by hosts Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley.
Key moments for the couple included Tim’s performance of “Humble and Kind” – a song nominated for nearly every big award offered; Single of the Year, Song of the Year and Music Video of the Year – ultimately winning in the Song of the Year category (an award tearfully accepted by songwriter Lori McKenna).
Faith also took the stage to present Eric Church with the Album of the Year award.
Golden 1 Center is excited to welcome the duo, who will be going on their first tour together in a decade.
