Artists Contribute to Breast Cancer Awareness Month

by Delaney Howard

It’s finally October, which means we are officially into the spooky season (is it ever too early to celebrate, though?) While Halloween may just be one day out of the month, October is a whole month dedicated to Breast Cancer Awareness. To help the cause and raise awareness, many celebrities participate in benefit concerts and donate to charities.

The "We Can Survive" concert in Los Angeles gathers some of the biggest artists each year to bring awareness, many of whom have graced our very own Golden 1 Center stage! $2 from every ticket sold goes towards breast cancer research, and with strong lineups, there is no doubt that a sizable sum is raised.

In 2017, the lineup was packed with many familiiar faces. Harry Styles, who performed in Sacramento in 2018, graced the stage in a red suit with an energetic performance. Also apart of the 2017 lineup were past Sacramento performers such as Lorde and Sam Smith. Also in attendance was P!NK — who wowed the crowd with her exceptional performance earlier this year — and Khalid, who threw a party in Golden 1 Center back in July.

The 2018 lineup included Shawn Mendes, who performed at Golden 1 Center in July. Khalid returned to the "We Can Survive" stage in 2018, showing his love and dedication to the cause.

This year, the lineup is jam-packed with amazing artists such as Camila Cabello, Lizzo, and Taylor Swift. Also performing are Golden 1 Center artists the Jonas Brothers, who will be in Sacramento on October 15 — four days before the "We Can Survive" concert. Also performing will be Billie Eilish, who is set to perform for the first time in Sacramento on April 8 of next year!

Music is an amazing way to bring everyone together to support an important cause! Tickets for "We Can Survive" are already sold-out, but there are always more local ways to get involved. The American Cancer Society will be putting on a walk to honor breast cancer victims and survivors on October 20 at the Capitol. The proceeds will go towards fighting breast cancer.
